Luis Marrero is the Director of External Affairs at Urban Health Plan (UHP), a system of community health centers in the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan he leads and manages all outreach activities and develops collaborative relationships and partnerships with community based organizations and elected officials to advance the mission of Urban Health Plan, to provide quality health services and programs to undeserved communities.
Luis has a long history with Urban Health Plan. He began his professional career there as a patient liaison, coordinating the first ever Fiesta San Juan, a grand street celebration of the organization giving back to the community. He then left to Puerto Rico to raise his family, and returned in 2012. He received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Metropolitan University in Puerto Rico, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Science from William Paterson University, and at Rutgers University, he completed Leadership Management for the Urban Executive Institute. Luis is a board member of Bronx Community Board #2, where he serves as Chairperson of the Health and Human Services Committee. Since 2013, he has coordinated this board’s annual AIDS Walk. He also volunteered for five years for SOMOS, a not for profit organization created by the New York State Assembly-Puerto Rican Latino Task Force. SOMOS serves to strengthen the Latino community. |
